Ethiopian Society of Pathology (ESP) was in the final stages of conducting the fourth annual generalized assembly on March 26th and 27th 2020GC at the Intercontinental Addis Hotel. With the theme of the event being “Pathology in Ethiopia: Towards Standardization of Practice”, multiple scientific discussions were scheduled. Two major challenges in pathology practice were also planned to be deliberated in addition to the formal business meeting of the society.
However, with the occurrence of the first COVID-19 case in our country and following advises and recommendations of local and international authorities, the executive council of ESP decided to postpone the event indefinitely. By avoiding members’ travels and the gathering, the decision will reduce the number of transmission and infections to help flatten the curve and keeps the safety of ESP members at heart. We urge all pathologists and pathology residents to play a positive role as part of our health care system and as part of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
